Ryan and Pam Kubat are celebrating their 20th year in business at their new location at 125 W. Bridge Street in Owatonna. Corporate Recognition was a business started in their basement and has grown to have international customers ordering their products.Stephanie Kollasch, a sales and marketing associate or Corporate Recognition reveals the wall that Federated Insurance commissioned to honor their employees who have worked for 25 years or more for their company. The project took nine months to complete and can be seen at Federated Insurance headquarters in Owatonna.

20 years of Corporate Recognition

Perhaps the roots of one of Owatonna’s very successful specialty shops originated in the pristine beauty of Alaska. It was a place where Ryan and Pam Kubat met and decided to get married.

“We had talked about it for a while,” said Pam Kubat. “We wanted to find something that we could both do together.”

It was pretty much discussion until one Sunday, their pastor offered a challenge to invest in new business with a $50 incentive seed. The seed was planted, and now 20 years later, Corporate Recognition is a go-to place for all your engraving, screenprinting and preservation of life’s memories.

Although Ryan Kubat likes to think it was his idea, the couple agree to disagree – in a lighthearted manner.

“21 years ago, we got the idea, we designed the logo, got a fax machine and letterhead done,” Pam Kubat said. “And then didn’t do anything for about nine months.”

The idea was simple. The couple wanted to find a way to help people recognize others. In the corporate world, it is a sound business practice to not only recognize employees verbally, but also with something tangible.

The diamond on their logo really is a picture of an employee that perhaps started out raw and rough around the edges. Through time and great effort, the rock was turned to a diamond. It not only exemplifies the quality and higher standard for Corporate Recognition’s business itself, but also for those who purchase their products.

The company sells everything from awards to promotional products and in everything they produce, there is a quality to their work that is not always seen in other businesses of this nature.

“The first job we ever did was a plastic bag that had 10 logos on it,” she said. “It was for a customer out in Las Vegas, (Circus, Circus).”

From those days of small beginnings in the family basement where that first order was processed, to their new location at 125 W. Bridge Street in downtown Owatonna, the company has grown substantially including the addition of their daughter Kate and her husband, Matt who are doing marketing, graphics and design work.

The idea is to create a place where the business is big enough for their family to take over when they retire.

Their most recent and extensive job came when Federated Insurance came to Corporate Recognition and commissioned them to create and design a work of art that would hang on the Federated display wall.

The piece had to have every name of every employee that has worked for Federated for 25 years or more. The work took nine months to create and was unveiled at a special meeting at Federated last summer.

This company is unique in that it has screened and vetted vendors from all over the county who are not only reputable, but put forth standards high enough to be on the Kubat’s vendor list.

“We have vendors from all across the county,” she said. “We choose those suppliers based on their abilities, and their A+ rating in their industry. Sometimes it’s in an area close to our customers to save the costs of shipping.”
