Lion Jerry Ingvalson receives legacy award

A legacy of service was celebrated with the Blooming Prairie Lions on a recent membership meeting night at the Blooming Prairie Servicemen’s Club.

District 5M-2 Gov. Steve Wasserman of Faribault told BP Lions members that “A Legacy of Service” was his theme for the Lions year of 2016-17.

In outlining ways to capture a club’s legacy, Gov. Wasserman paid tribute to Lion Jerry Ingvalson by giving him an appreciation plaque for his involvement and dedication to the Gopher 50 car race during the past 37 years.

Gov. Wasserman reminded BP Lions that Lions International is celebrating its Centennial year (100) this year. He saluted the BP Lions for its 62 years of building and celebrating its legacy.

“Let’s enhance that legacy by finding a new mountain to climb,” Wasserman said. He mentioned youth, hunger and vision as ways to build a club’s legacy.

Gov. Wasserman saluted the BP Lions for working with the Boy Scouts, for collecting eye glasses and for protecting the environment by adopting a highway.

The 5M-2 district governor recognized many of the BP Lions for their years of service. The club has 58 members. He thanked Lion Bob Nahlovsky for being a Lions member since 1974.

Find ways to celebrate the Lions legacy in Blooming Prairie, Gov. Wasserman told the BP membership. “Tell people what Lions do in Blooming Prairie,” he said. He said the community’s 150th birthday this year and its 4th of July celebration are ways to celebrate the community’s legacy.

“Build the legacy, celebrate the legacy and enhance the legacy,” Wasserman said. He pointed to the dining tables at the BP Servicemen’s Club as ways the Lions are continuing to build their legacy by helping other community organizations.
