Windfall in Steele and Dodge

A new business venture is blowing into Steele and Dodge counties.

NextEra Energy Resources is proposing The NextEra Wind Project to establish a field of wind turbines in both counties.

The project would consist of 30-year contracts with local landowners, particularly farmers who are willing to loan out parts of their fields. The company says for the landowners that wish to participate it can be a very stable source of income.

The project was originally named Dodge County Wind, as the company planned to deal exclusively in Dodge. Optimal wind patterns, however, have also been found in Steele County expanding the project. 20 to 25 turbines are planned for Steele County in the Havana and Aurora Townships.

The project is currently in the outreach phase, as representatives from NextEra are currently in contact with county governments and local landowners to ensure a positive experience for all.

At the Steele County Board meeting on June 13, Jason Harris, who was presenting the project to the board on behalf of the company, said the response to their project has been positive so far.
