BP girls earn dominant win over BA

The Blooming Prairie girls basketball team didn’t allow Bethlehem Academy to score its 10th point until the second half and never let the Cardinals get closer than 16 points in the second half, cruising to a 46-28 win on Saturday, Jan. 16.

The Awesome Blossoms got off to a fast start and led 20-8 with just under three minutes left in the first half.

In those final three minutes, Blooming Prairie sank a free throw and didn’t give up any more points, so they led 21-8 at halftime.

In the second half, the Awesome Blossoms increased their lead to 17, 26-9, before the Cardinals made a free throw to reach double digits with 13:20 left in the game.

Blooming Prairie then went on an 8-0 run to extend its lead to 34-10 with nine minutes left in the game.

Bethlehem Academy cut its deficit to 18 with the help of two three-pointers, but the Awesome Blossoms responded with an 8-3 run to get their back up to 23, 42-19, with four and a half minutes left in the game.

In the final minute, the Cardinals cut their deficit to 16 points, but it was too little, too late as Blooming Prairie scored one more basket to win their first game of the season 46-28.

The Blossoms will try to continue their winning ways when they travel to United South Central High School for their first road game of the season on Friday, Jan. 22. Their next home game is against Maple River at 7:15 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 29.
