Schubert, Trihey help Wildcats trounce Rebels

Let’s hope the crowd at last Friday’s Dodge County girls’ hockey game brought plenty of hats because two Wildcats earned hat tricks to lead Dodge County to a 7-0 win over Moose Lake Area.

Nevaeh Trihey got the scoring started with an even strength goal in the first period. Halle Determan and Kayla Schubert earned assists on the goal.

Just a few minutes later Kennedy Kraus passed the puck to Malia Schubert who deposited it behind Rebels’ goalie Julia Jusczak to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead before the first period ended.

Neither team scored in the second period, but that was probably just the calm before the storm because Dodge County scored five times in the third.

The first goal of the third came off the stick of Trihey whose second goal gave the Wildcats a 3-0 lead. Elizabeth Fagerlind and Malia Schubert assisted on the play.

However, that score didn’t last long as she added one more minutes later to make it 4-0 and earn the hat trick. This time, it was Kayla Schubert and Malia Schubert who earned assists on the goal.

Then, it was Malia Schubert’s turn to score again. Her second goal, assisted by Fagerlind and Trihey, gave Dodge County a 5-0 lead.

Minutes later, she earned her own hat trick with the help of an assist by Kraus.

But she wasn’t done yet as Schubert added one more to make the score 7-0. Kraus and Trihey collected assists on the game’s final goal.

In total, Malia Schubert tallied four goals and two assists, while Trihey earned three goals and two assists. Kraus led the team in assists with three. Kayla Schubert and Fagerlind tied Malia Schubert and Trihey with two assists. Determan rounded out the scoring with one assist.

Dodge County accrued five penalties, but still didn’t allow a goal thanks to their defense and goalie Sky Hughes who blocked all 18 shots she faced.

The Wildcats are now 5-2 on the season.

Dodge County hosts Hopkins/Park at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 14. After that, their next home game is against Hudson at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 17.
