Man with violent history faces attempted murder

A Rochester man has been charged with attempted murder in connection with a stabbing in Owatonna that seriously injured a woman.

Ron Henry Lee Jaeger, 34, faces attempted second-degree murder and first-degree assault after allegedly stabbing a woman multiple times June 1.

During his initial court appearance Friday, Judge Karen Duncan set Jaeger’s bail at $1 million with conditions or $500,000 without conditions. He will be back in court June 14.

If convicted of either count, Jaeger would face at least three years in prison.

County Attorney Daniel McIntosh said the serious charges against Jaeger are warranted because he stabbed the victim eight times in the abdomen, back and face. “This was beyond trying to scare her,” McIntosh said, adding Jaeger has had previous incidents with the same victim in the past. In December, he was convicted of domestic assault with her and received 180 days in jail.

McIntosh pointed out that Jaeger “threatened to kill her” during the 2016 incident.

In the most recent case, Owatonna Police responded to a stabbing at the Skyline Gardens trailer park on Third Avenue NW around 10:43 a.m. Thursday. The suspect had reportedly fled the scene.

A 36-year-old woman told officers her ex-boyfriend had stabbed her with a knife and took off in her vehicle. She was airlifted from the scene to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.

At about 11:15 a.m., the State Patrol and Dodge County Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle on U.S. Highway 14 just east of Dodge Center matching the description of the victim’s vehicle. Officers arrested Jaeger in the vehicle and found blood on him and inside the vehicle, according to the criminal complaint.
