BREAKING NEWS: Brooktree parts ways with Tavern Nine

The City of Owatonna Parks, Recreation and Facilities Department has announced that Brooktree Golf Course and restaurant Tavern Nine will be parting ways effectively immediately on Tuesday as a “transition in the restaurant lease for food and beverage” is underway.

Tavern Nine had previously signed a multi-year lease in 2022 to be Brooktree Golf Course’s food and beverage provider through 2024.

“We didn’t see eye-to-eye in how we were operating… it’s just that we’re not the right people for them. It sounds like what we were putting out – the quality of the food and beverages, and the price point – it just wasn’t what they were looking for,” said Tavern Nine co-owner and chef Adam Schultz.

According to the city in its press release, “changes were implemented following a series of listening sessions and an online survey to provide feedback about how the course could be improved for its members as well as the community as a whole.”

Brooktree Golf Course is currently searching for a new vendor to take over operations at the existing site, while immediate plans are to continue serving snacks and non-alcoholic beverages.

“Based on feedback from patrons, we realize the importance of food and beverage services at Brooktree and want to thank Tavern Nine for their partnership. The Brooktree patio has become a neighborhood hub for diners and golfers and we ask for patrons’ patience as we navigate this transition,” said Parks and Recreation Department Director Jenna Tuma in the press release.

Those who grew fond of Tavern Nine will not be left without options to visit a Schultz brothers’ establishment as their Schultzy’s Restaurant Group currently owns and operates 1319 Woodfire Tavern in New Prague.
