Manager at Medford Muni steps down

Rachel Heinrich did what she was hired to do.

After seeing profits climb at the Medford Liquor Store under her guidance as lead bartender, the city council hired her as the full-time manager.

Her performance drew raves from customers and city employees alike, which Heinrich said was thanks to a “fresh start” and a positive approach.

Less than a year later, the same city council accepted her resignation without comment.

Her last day is Monday.

At the same meeting, City Administrator Beth Jackson recommended the city not replace Heinrich. Instead, the council approved promoting Angela Bohlman to part-time lead bartender, which came with an hourly raise of nearly $2.

In addition, council members hired Nola Olson as a part-time assistant lead bartender at a starting wage of $14.91 per hour.

Jackson said Heinrich “has gone on to a new career path.”

The new hires, she said, “gives us two people that can do the books, two people that can do the pull-tabs and the e-tabs.

“We’ve kind of gone back and forth over the last few years of whether we needed a liquor store manager or not,” Jackson said. “I can’t say with 100% honesty that you do need one. If we see that it’s not going to work, I’ll come back to the council, and you can discuss putting a bar manager back in place.”\
