OPD: ‘Active investigation’ into shots fired

Owatonna Police are investigating after several shots were fired early Wednesday morning in a northeast neighborhood.

Officers responded to 25th Street Northeast after multiple 911 calls came in reporting several gunshots in the area.

Other callers reported seeing vehicles leave the area, according to an OPD press release.

No injuries have been reported, and according to police officials, the general public is not in danger.

On social media sites, a neighbor said a camera on her house “picked up” the sound of just one shot, but she later noted eight yellow markers in the road, possibly indicating the number of shots fired.

Another neighbor said her camera caught the sound of all eight shots.

Checking the video, the first neighbor said a car drove through the area at 4:52 a.m. and “scoped the house out.” The vehicle returned about 10 minutes later, “shot one single shot, took off down Liinhaven Place and turned right at Liinhaven Lane.”

That route would lead the vehicle back to Seventh Avenue Northeast.

Another commenter who said he heard the shots claimed they were fired from a handgun.
