River View offers a reprieve from home

Those looking to get out of the house and enjoy nature in Steele County should look no further than River View Campgrounds at 2554 SW 28th St. in Owatonna.
The 27-acre campground has been owned by Wayne and Rebecca Cederburg since 2018 and has offered campers and seasonal tenants a place to relax and enjoy the warm summer weather.
“I’ve been coming here since the early 90s off and on. I stay for the season most years, and I love it. It’s close to home, but away from home,” said Jerry Seath, who is retired and lives in Owatonna.
River View also offers a plethora of activities such as a swimming pool, an outdoor volleyball court, mini golf, an office with televisions and games, and even a community room for Friday night bingo and other activities.
On top of the site’s recreational amenities, the Cederburgs have implemented a summer of activities and events that keep camp goers entertained weekly throughout the season.
Some fan favorites include Christmas in July, Ladies Night Out weekend, and Halloween Weekend – with the latter coming up on Friday, Aug. 11.
The site offers two cabins for rent, with visitors also having the opportunity to bring their own mobile campers with them.
Rates for staying on the grounds range from $35-75 depending on water, electric and living accommodations.
The tenting primitive option will be the cheapest at $35 per night. Meanwhile, water electric and sewer privileges will be $50 per night.
Renting out a camping cabin will be the peak of the price range and cost visitors $75 per night.
The campgrounds also offer long-term visitors a monthly rate of $750, but also have weekly rates of $270 for water and electric, or $300 for water, electric and sewer.
River View Campgrounds is also a family-owned and operated business – part of a dream that the Cederburgs are making a reality.
“It’s something I’ve wanted to do since I was a kid,” said Rebecca Cederburg. “Now we’ve made that dream a reality. We’re family-owned and family-run, which we take a lot of pride in. We’re hoping that one day our kids can keep up the tradition and love it as much as we do,” said Rebecca Cederburg.
In terms of life on the grounds, the two have found a home in Steele County.
“We live here, and we love it. It’s not just a flat plot of land. There are some hills, it’s right along the river, birds are in the trees everywhere… It’s a great place to be,” said Wayne Cederburg.
