U.S. Bank to close in BP

The Blooming Prairie branch of U.S. Bank is closing, effective May 8.

The news was shared with its clients in a letter dated Feb. 1. It cited the change in banking preferences and behaviors for “influencing how and where we operate.”

The change includes a “rapid migration toward digital and mobile banking platforms, and a desire for greater simplicity,” said Caitlin Hurley, assistant vice president of public affairs and communications for U.S. Bank.

“As we evolve along with our clients, we are reevaluating our physical footprint, and in some instances, consolidating branch locations in select markets,” she said. “Although we are closing some branches, we continue to open and enhance others, as well as rapidly enhancing our digital capabilities.”

The local employees who wish to stay with the bank are “encouraged to pursue other opportunities that may be available,” Hurley said, adding that roles may exist in other nearby communities like Austin or Owatonna, as well as remote positions.

The change will not affect accounts, Hurley said, nor will there be an interruption of service.

U.S. Bank owns the building that houses the Blooming Prairie branch; it will be marketed for sale.
