Americans everywhere saluted the American flag with honor on June 14.

To recognize local patriotism, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 878 and its Auxiliary presented the 11th annual Patriotic Citizen Award to the Blooming Prairie Public Utilities.

Accepting the special award on behalf of Public Utilities last week was Jerry Mausbach, manager of the operation.

A special recognition certificate will be posted in the VFW halls.

The award recognizes local citizens for the daily display of the American flag and for unsolicited, inspirational, and patriotic service to the community.

VFW Auxiliary President Joyce Johns and Auxiliary member Judy Lestrud assisted with the Flag Day ceremony. The flag is located on the east side of the Public Utilities building.

"Congratulations, keep our flag flying and thank you," Berg said.

Past recipients of the VFW Auxiliary's Patriotic Citizen Award include Minimizer, the Rev. Richard and Norma Hegal, The Sundine family, Prairie Manor Care Center, U. S. Bank, Joe Haberman, and Bill and Joanne Newman.
