218 Liquor in BP sold

Doug Goff got exactly what he wanted for Christmas: The sale of the business he’d owned for 30 years.
The former owner of 218 Off-Sale Liquor was still behind the counter last week, “but I just work here now,” he said with a laugh. “It’s a lot easier than being the boss.”
Goff sold the store to M&S, LLC, made up of partners Mehul Shah, of Maple Grove, and Sanjjay Patel, of Shakopee, in a deal that was final Dec. 17.
Buying the business was a good fit, said Patel, though they’ve never owned a liquor store.
“We own a hotel in Austin, and I would see this every week on my way to take care of it,” he said, so it made sense to just add another stop.
Goff is working for M&S until the new owners can hire more employees, something they’re in the process of doing.
Not that Goff needs a new job.
“I’ve always been a contractor, and my son always has things for me to help with,” he said. “I have a 50x100 foot shed full of stuff, and some older cars.”
Plenty of projects, in other words.
Patel said he and his partner have a few projects as well, including expanding the inventory. Otherwise, he said, they will offer the same products and be open the same hours.
After 30 years of making the 11-mile drive from Ellendale to work every day, is Goff sad?
“Nope,” he said without hesitation. “Not a bit.”
Then a pause: “Not yet.”
