BP man charged in Las Vegas murder
A Blooming Prairie man wanted in connection with a murder in Las Vegas has been captured in Rice County.
Sheriff’s deputies arrested Mark Doocy, 60, at the Flying J Truck Stop along Interstate 35 outside of Northfield March 4.
According to Rice County Sheriff Troy Dunn, a deputy spotted Doocy when he searched his vehicle’s registration and learned the vehicle’s owner was wanted in connection with a Las Vegas homicide that occurred Feb. 28.
It took officers several hours to bring Doocy into custody. The South Metro SWAT team and four police departments arrived on the scene in an effort to arrest Doocy. After about a four hour standoff with police, the officers used “chemical aerosol and other non-lethal tactics” to force Doocy out of his vehicle, Dunn said.
The sheriff reported Doocy was taken to a Twin Cities hospital for treatment while remaining in custody in lieu of $1 million bail as authorities in Nevada seek his return.
