AUG 7 - BREAKING NEWS UPDATE: Boy identified in ATV crash by BP
The boy killed in Wednesday’s ATV crash near Blooming Prairie has been identified as Shay Buer, 11, of Hayfield.
Authorities say the boy died after the ATV he had been riding was found on top of him, pinning him under water. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to his obituary, Shay’s funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hayfield. Visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13, at Hayfield Public School, and again from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Mower County Sheriff Steve Sandvik said the accident involved “no criminal activity, and was an utter tragedy for the family.”

One person was killed late this afternoon after the ATV they were riding apparently crashed.
The incident was reported about 4:30 p.m.; the caller said the ATV and rider were found partially submerged in water and CPR was in progress.
The Mower County Sheriff's Office, Blooming Prairie firefighters, Blooming Prairie Ambulance and Mayo One helicopter all responded to the scene, which was on 550th Avenue, just south of the Dodge Mower Road, southeast of Blooming Prairie.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
