Community Pathways names new director

In the end, the board of directors for Community Pathways didn’t need to look far to find its new leader.
Dom Korbel of Owatonna will take over as the executive director of the nonprofit organization on Dec. 13. He currently had been serving on the board for Community Pathways.
Over the past year, he has been commuting to St. Paul where he served as vice president of administration for Clues, which was founded in 1981 and serves as Minnesota’s largest Latino-led nonprofit.
“Community Pathways has long been a cornerstone of the nonprofit community helping care for the residents of Steele County,” said Korbel. “I am humbled by the fact that the Board of Directors has placed its trust in me to carry on the great work of the past leaders and board members into the future.”
Korbel replaces Nancy Ness and Maureen Schlobohm, who have served as co-executive directors since the Steele County Clothesline and the Steele County Food Shelf merged into one organization in January 2020.
“Nancy and Maureen have set the bar so high with their success, and I am excited to be the next leader with a chance to leave such a positive mark on this organization and the Steele County community,” said Korbel.
In making their selection, the board directors cited Korbel’s extensive experience in executive leadership, operations management and nonprofit financials. Korbel has lived in Owatonna for 25 years and has served on numerous volunteer roles, including Let’s Smile, United Way and Owatonna Basketball Association.
Korbel is also active in church as he assists with the confirmation program as a volunteer teacher at Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna.
“Dom brings with him a forward-focused strategic vision that will serve both Community Pathways and our community well in the years to come,” said Mark Rahrick, president of Community Pathways.
With Korbell’s selection as director, Community Pathways will need to fill a vacancy on the board in the near future. There are currently 11 people serving on the board.
