Deloris Skalisky, 97, Owatonna
Deloris Meta Skalisky, 97, of Owatonna, died peacefully on Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2026, at Lake Shore Rehabilitation Center in Waseca.
She was born Feb. 11, 1929, in Austin, the daughter of Frank and Meta (Konakovitz) Placek. Deloris was a graduate of Austin High School.
She was united in marriage to John Francis Skalisky Jr. on Nov. 28, 1948, in Austin.
Deloris was a homemaker for her family and helped with the family farm outside Blooming Prairie from 1948 until 1966. After moving to Owatonna, she eventually helped with her husband’s business, John’s Appliance, doing clerical work.
Deloris was an active member and volunteered at Trinity Lutheran Church. She was an excellent cook and baker and her friends and family got to enjoy her delightful peach and strawberry pies. Her many pastimes included sewing, dancing (polka and waltz), playing cards and games with friends and neighbors, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Deloris is survived by her son, Michael (Dora) Skalisky of Owatonna; daughter, Annette Hollis of Colbert, Ga.; grandchildren: John (Megan), Laura, Daniel (Jennifer), Tessa (Trey), Tiffany (Michael), Sean (Lindsay), Carissa (Jason), Matt; great-grandchildren: Abraham, Deacon, October, Winter, Autumn, Samuel, Adalyn, Buck, Brooks, Jasper, Guy, Catherine, Claire, Aria; great-great-grandchild, Lorelei; sister, Gloria “Babe” Michels; also many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John in 2009; daughter, Suzette Fisher in 2026; sons-in-law, Werner Fisher and Odell Hollis; siblings, Winifred Martin, Alice Westra, Frank Placek Jr., Robert Placek.
A Celebration of Deloris’ Life will be held 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 11, 2026, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Owatonna. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Following the service, a reception will be held at the Owatonna Eagles Club. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery in Owatonna.
