BP Cancer Group donates $200,000

"It's just amazing and unbelievable at the same time."
That's how Cheri Krejci, treasurer of the Blooming Prairie Cancer Group, described the cancer organization's latest achievement.
Representatives of the BP Cancer Group donated $200,000 on Saturday at the 68th Annual District 5 Eagles Telethon, based in Rochester. Nine members of the group brought forward a facsimile check totaling $200,000.
The huge donation was the largest reported through the night of Jan. 15. The BP Cancer Group's previous high donation was $110,000 in 2018.
The Geneva Cancer Auctions and supporting organizations also donated $145,000 to the Eagles Telethon.
The Rochester Eagles Telethon is said to be the longest locally run telethon in the United States. It has the continuous support of many volunteers, community organizations and local TV station KTTC.
The Telethon has continued to grow in donations and support throughout the many years and the money raised is used to help fund cancer research at the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center, Hormel Institute for Cancer Research and U of M Masonic Cancer Center.
These institutes continue to work for discoveries leading to a cure for cancer.
"It's all about the people, the donors, the workers and the community," said Krejci. "We keep on trying and can't do it without the support of everyone," Krejci said, emphasizing that the BP Cancer Group will continue to fight for a cure.
The $200,000 will be channeled into the general fund. The BP Cancer Group also maintains a Community Fund account.
"If it were not for cancer research, many of us would not be here today," said Krejci, who is also a cancer survivor. "We are very excited about this latest donation,” said Krejci.
The BP Cancer Group sponsored a breakfast on Sunday morning at the BP Servicemen's Club.
