According to a Gofundme.org post organized by Owatonna resident Heidi Peters, student-athlete Tanner Wencl was involved in a serious crash over the weekend.

Wencl’s injuries stemming from the accident include a fractured skull, ribs and vertebrae along with a bruised liver and kidney.

Wencl, 16, a sophomore at Owatonna High School, was transported to an intensive care unit in Rochester where he is currently battling his injuries.

Wencl is a member of the lacrosse and hockey teams at Owatonna.

An Instagram post from Wencl’s mother, Marisa, has since updated that her son is currently in stable condition but remains unconscious in the care of hospital staff.

“He’s a fighter and he will not give up! My faith is being tested right now, but I am not losing faith and gaining patience…” reads a portion of a post by Marisa Wencl on Intagram.
