BREAKING NEWS: U.S. CONGRESSMAN FOR SOUTHEASTERN MINNESOTA DIES

Jim Hagedorn, the U.S. Congressman who represented Steele County and the rest of District 1, has died. He was 59.
Hagedorn's death was announced by his wife, Jennifer Carnahan, the former chairwoman of the Minnesota Republican Party.
Hagedorn had been treated for advanced-stage kidney disease at Mayo Clinic in Rochester since 2019. He was in remission briefly before announcing in July that the cancer had returned.
"Jim loved our country and loved representing the people of southern Minnesota," Carnahan said in a Facebook post this morning.
Hagedorn died last night.
A special election will be held to fill the rest of his term, which ends Jan. 3, 2023. That election will take place Aug. 9, which is also the day of the primary.
