Fly the American flag often. That’s the message sent to Blooming Prairie area residents by the Blooming Prairie VFW Auxiliary.
To reward those doing so, the VFW Auxiliary presents a special certificate to city residents and to business establishments, in alternating years.
This year, city residents Nolan and Linda Christianson were selected for the honor, presented by VFW Auxiliary Americanism chair Geri Berg and VFW Auxiliary president Joyce Johns and member Judy Lestrud.
To recognize local patriotism, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 878 and its Auxiliary presented the 12th annual Patriotic Citizen Award to the Christiansons.
A special recognition certificate will be posted in the VFW halls.
The award recognizes local citizens for the daily display of the American flag and for their unsolicited, inspirational, and patriotic service to the community.
"Congratulations, keep our flag flying and thank you," Berg said.
Past recipients of the VFW Auxiliary's Patriotic Citizen Award have been Minimizer; the Rev. Richard Hegal and Norma; The Sundine family; Prairie Manor Care Center; U.S. Bank; F&M Merchants Bank; Merle McNutt and Heather Haus residents; Dennis and Mary Wencl; Joe Haberman; Bill and Joanne Newman; and the Blooming Prairie Public Utilities.
