Family and friends of Chuck Herdina gave him a very special 91st birthday celebration on June 16.
The celebration came via a drive-by parade, since nobody is allowed inside the care center during lockdown caused by the coronavirus. About 15 vehicles participated.
Herdina is a resident of the Prairie Manor Care Center and his wife Betty is a resident of the Heather Haus.
Betty joined husband Chuck, in observance of social distancing, by being seated next to the birthday boy at the front entrance of Prairie Manor.
Staff of Prairie Manor accepted flowers from family members and gave them to the Herdinas.
"This is nice," said Herdina as he waved to his family and friends.
Three Hendrickson brothers, Max, Henry and Carlie, held up homemade birthday signs for their grandpa as they rode in a trailer with their mom, Jenny.
Elliott Herdina, a grandson, also brought Chuck's great-granddaughter Berkley, 4 months to be part of the parade.
Prairie Manor staff has been most cooperative in helping loved ones of residents the opportunity to celebrate special birthdays.
On May 28, Prairie Manor resident Eleanor Harms was brought outdoors to visit with her family, by social distance, and celebrate her 100th birthday.
