‘It's like a death in the family’

Gregg Fristedt, owner of The Bakery in Blooming Prairie, said his world has been turned upside down since the Jan. 28 fire that destroyed his place of business.
"It's like a death in the family," he confesses. Fristedt has owned The Bakery the past 23 1/2 years. "It's been my life," he admits, saying he put in 70-90 hours a week.
Fristedt has granted no interviews until now, The Times getting an exclusive.
This business has been successful because of planning for tomorrow, the next week and the week after that, Fristedt says.
The fire, which reportedly started in the northwest corner of the basement, is believed to have been electrical, says Blooming Prairie Fire Chief Dean Naatz.
Smoke engulfed the adjoining business, Sportstitch. Some of her embroidery equipment and her business books were saved. Sportstitch owner Linda Klemmensen intends on continuing her business at her home for the time being. She is exploring other options, too.
