Times earns top awards from Society of Professional Journalists

For the first time in its history, the Steele County Times has earned two awards from the Minnesota Society of Professional Journalists.

The honors were presented in the 2023 Page One Awards at a banquet Wednesday night in St. Paul.

Editor Joni Hubred and Publisher Rick Bussler captured first place in the Editorials category for publications with less than 50,000 circulation, while Kay Fate picked up second place in Investigative Reporting.

The Society of Professional Journalists is the nation’s most broad-based journalism organization, dedicated to encouraging the free practice of journalism and stimulating high standards of ethical behavior. It’s the largest and oldest organization for journalists in the country.
