Mountain was the oldest living priest

The longest living ordained priest in the Diocese of Winona has passed away.
Rev. Edward Mountain of Owatonna died peacefully Monday at Benedictine Living Community in Owatonna. He was 96.
Mountain was ordained on June 1, 1947 in Mankato. Throughout his long career, he served at various parishes across southern Minnesota. He was pastor of Sacred Heart Church in Owatonna. He also served at Christ the King in Medford and Corpus Christi in Deerfield.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for 78 years. Honoring his lifelong commitment to the Knights, the Owatonna Council will now be renamed, “Father Edward C. Mountain Council 945.”
Mountain resided in Owatonna since his retirement in 1989. He left his house to Sacred Heart with the request that the income from it should be used to help some deserving student attending St. Mary’s School in Owatonna.
Mountain has no immediate survivors.
Services are pending at Sacred Heart Church in Owatonna. Brick Meger Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. A complete obituary will be published in next week’s edition.
