An Owatonna woman has released a song that deals with coping with ADHD (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder).
Nicole Galvin wrote the lyrics after her brother, Nathan Graff, who performs as Coma Dose, wrote the melody. The song, “Endless Addiction” will be included on Coma Dose’s fourth album.
Galvin said she wrote the lyrics in March after her brother sent her the melody. She said she has been writing mostly poetry, but this has been on her “bucket list.”
The song, Galvin said, explores living with and managing ADHD within a relationship. It highlights how hyperfocus can be perceived as an addiction by those without an ADHD diagnosis. It touches on the fact, she said, that individuals with ADHD may not always recognize their symptoms and often need support from others in moderating them.
The song, she said, also touches on addiction and needing to be saved from it.
She has a personal connection to the song, as she has been diagnosed with ADHD, while her husband, Jarrett, has not, she said.
Graff, who currently lives in Minneapolis, has been making music since the early 2000s.
Galvin said that they faced a challenge in finding the right male voices, as three different artists backed out over three months. Ultimately, Galvin and Graff decided to ask a friend of 20 years, Emily Schumacher, also of Owatonna, to record the chorus. This was then transposed along with another chorus recorded by Coma Dose and the female vocals recorded by Galvin.
The song was recorded in Owatonna, she said.
Galvin also works as a software technician for MEDITECH in Minnetonka and has a “side gig” running Empire PR and Consulting.
Galvin said her family is of Palauan descent, among just 12,500 Palauans in the U.S. She and her siblings are all graduates of Owatonna High School.
Nicole and Jarrett Galvin have two young children, Avery and James.
“Endless Addiction” can be streamed on Coma Dose’s Spotify, YouTube, and Sound Cloud channels.
“Endless Addiction”
Go, there you go
Like I’m out of my mind, going out of my mind you know
Swallow my heart like I do with my pride
Just to defend all my demands inside
Remember, forget and I’m barely alive
Addiction for me, need to be revived
Moving forward but still stuck in time
Fade in and out the blurred lines
(Revive me from my addiction)
Shot to the heart with my own ammunition
Tell me, is this what you envision?
(Revive me from my addiction)
Do it for me. Can you do it for me?
Go, let me go
Like I’m losing the game, yeah, I’m losing the game you know
Go, let me go
I said I’m losing the game, yeah, I’m losing the game you know
Do it for me. Can you do it for me?
(Revive me from my addiction)
Swallow my heart like I do with my pride
Just to defend all my demands inside
Remember, forget and I’m barely alive
Addiction for me, need to be revived
Moving forward but still stuck in time
Fade in and out the blurred lines
Go, let me go
Like I’m losing the game, yeah, I’m losing the game you know
Go, let me go
I said I’m losing the game, yeah, I’m losing the game you know
