Tigers smash Blossoms girls

After an exhilarating victory over Water-Elysian- Morristown earlier in the week, the Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossom girls ran into a block in the road, when Medford kept its unbeaten string alive at 12-0.
The Tigers romped to the victory on their home f loor, 73-45, Friday, January 11. Medford now has 7-0 mark in Gopher Conference.
“We have been pleased with the work ethic our kids bring to practice every day,” Medford head coach Mark Kubat said. “We are getting better every day. I feel we have grown as a team all season.”
Emma Kniefel led the Tigers with 20 points. Izzy Reuvers scored 13, Kinsey Cronin added 11, Kiley Nihart had nine, Jenna Berg and Bailey Purrier each finished with six and Isabella Steffen and Alorah Weise chipped in four a piece.
“Hopefully, we are prepared for some tough games ahead,” Kubat said. “Our health is great. The off-season conditioning  program helps to make these kids tough. We will keep working toward our goals to compete for a conference championship  and play at MSU in the sections. We will constantly add new goals.”
The Blossoms stayed with the Tigers early, but a relentless defense for the home team and some pinpoint outside shooting soon found Blooming Prairie falling behind.
Medford led 44-24 at the half and kept the pressure on through the second half.
“We lost tonight on the road to a very talented Medford team,” Blooming Prairie head coach John Bruns said. “Their relentless defense and outside shooting proved too much for us to keep up with. We learned some things tonight that will make us a better team down the road”
Julia Worke led the Blossom offense with 16 points, with Bobbie Bruns adding 12. The team record dropped to 8-4 overall and 4-3 in conference play.
 
GOOD DEFENSE WINS FOR BP
The BP girls used a good defense to defeat Water- Elysian-Morristown, 42-36, on the home court Tuesday, January 8 to earn a tie for second place in the tough Gopher Conference.
The Buccaneers came into the game 10-1, with their only loss to league-leading  Medford.
The Blossoms got off to a great start, with Maggie Bruns and Worke both making a 3-pointer. BP continued to roll and forged a 26-11 lead, aided by great defense. At one point BP played defense for two minutes and then got the stop they needed.
In the second half, the Blossoms extended their margin to 20 points, before the Bucs made a run
to make the final score competitive. Some key stops and made free throws preserved the win.
“This was a big conference victory for us tonight,” Bruns said. “We got off to a good start, and that carried through the entire game. I thought our defense played particularly well tonight also.”
Worke led the BP scoring with 13 points, but Maggie Bruns and Megan Oswald had 10 each, and Bobbie Bruns handed out four assists. Oswald and Worke had eight and seven rebounds in the defensive effort. Shelby Hermel and Toryn Richards both had nine points for WEM.
