Williamson serves as Vikings honorary captain

The awards and accolades continue to roll in for Owa- tonna senior running back Jason Williamson.
In addition to earning the trifecta of Minnesota’s high honors (Mr. Football, Gatorade POY and AP POY), Williamson served as hon- orary captain for the Min- nesota Vikings on Sunday, December 15 in the team’s 42-17 victory over the Miami Dolphins.
In addition to three major awards Williamson also earned AP first team all- state selection (2017 and 2018), member of the 5A state championship team (2017 and 2018) and a mem- ber of the Minnesota Show- case participant.
Williamson rushed nine times for 64 yards and a touchdown during the all-star game. He also com- pleted a pass for a 2-point conversion.
“Jason is an outstanding student (3.69 GPA) and a role model and leader in our hallways,” Owatonna head coach Jeff Williams said. “He is held in the highest regard by teachers and stu- dents alike. He is a favorite at our Youth Camp and in our elementary cafeterias.
He is always willing to give of his time to work with the young kids in our District.
“Jason is a leader on our football team and was select- ed captain for the 2018 sea- son,” Williams continued. “He is the kid that the oth- ers look to, is a vocal leader and a leader by example. He is the hardest worker on our team.
“ Jason does not talk a lot, but when he does, his words have tremendous impact. If a session is not going well, Jason will say something before the coaches do. He is the heart and soul of our team. Jason has led our team to the State Playoffs in each of his three years as a starter, and was the MVP of the Class 5A State Champi- onship game in 2017.
“Jason is the finest athlete and football player I have ever coached. In my time in the Big 9 Conference, only Darrell Thompson compares to him. He is a truly special athlete with a very bright future ahead of him.”
Williamson will play for head coach PJ Fleck at the University of Minnesota next season.
Williamson finished his high school career with 7,009 rushing yards on 923 attempts and 102 touch-downs.
