Court Sports shifts ownership

Long-time Owatonna sporting goods store Court Sports and More has changed ownership from Mark Kubat to Chet and Lindsay Macht, marking a new era in the store’s history.
The sale of the store was made official Sept. 12, bringing a new Owatonna-based family into the business.
“It all came from a conversation with previous owner Mark Kubat when we were making a shirt order for one of the teams I’m involved with. The topic randomly came up, we got to talking and then it just happened,” said Chet Macht.
Now three months into their new venture, the Machts have already begun the process of bringing new ideas to the store.
Paving the way for the lineup of fresh new products are a variety of hats and shirts, as well as more fun projects such as tie-dyed hoodies and engraved items.
“We’re continuing with a lot of the same things that have been done in the past, but we’re trying to bring in some new products and ideas. We’re taking advice from people in the community and trying to give them the items they want to see. We want to bring some fun stuff in, too. The cotton candy tie-dye sweatshirts are our latest creation. We’re trying to have fun with it,” said Macht.
With the school year now in full swing, Court Sports and More has also made sure to restock their letterman jacket collection, ensuring that local student-athletes can show off their team pride everywhere they go.
As has been the case in the past, shoppers can also find items from schools around the county.
Medford and NRHEG are well represented on the shelves and clothing racks, meanwhile, Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossom products can be specially ordered.
Next up for Court Sports and More is an updated website and a new logo.
The end goal is to elevate the business with new fun and fresh ideas to keep attracting loyal customers.
Court Sports and More has been in operation in Owatonna since 1983 and has come a long way as a business over the years.
According to courtsportsandmore.com, the business originally specialized in racquets before becoming a “full-service sporting goods and apparel store.”
“For the past 40 years, the big push has been your t-shirts and sweatshirts. Now we’re looking to expand to bring in plenty of new products that people haven’t seen here before,” said Macht.
Court Sports and More is located at 1414 S Oak Ave., Suite No. 1 in Owatonna.
