Dewayne Schuster, 78, Owatonna

Dewayne Frank Schuster,78, of Owatonna, died on Sunday, Aug. 9, 2026, at Owatonna Hospital.

He was born June 20, 1948, in Owatonna, the son of Alvin and Viola (Pitan) Schuster. Dewayne attended Owatonna High School and graduated in 1966. He then went on to attend Bemidji State University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in both math and physics in 1970.

After graduating, he worked for NW Bell - Lumen phone company as a lineman and continued that career for 30 years.

He met the love of his life, Karen “Kay” (Knapp), and they married in 1972, reaching 54 years of marriage. They raised three sons together.

In his free time, he loved attending his grandchildren’s activities and supporting them in any way he could. He was also a “Jack of all trades” always finding work to do.

He is survived by his wife, Karen of Owatonna; children, Aaron (Katie) Schuster of Owatonna, Brian (Holly) Schuster of Crestview, Fla., and Todd (MaryJo) of Becker; grandchildren, Brady, Alivia, Lanie, Ella, Marissa, Zach, Kelsey, and Carson; brother, Dennis Alvin; nieces and nephews, Becky and Tony Schuster, Alisa Lockman, and Brad Knapp.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Bill Knapp.

A memorial service will be held at Christ Community Covenant Church in Owatonna on Friday, Aug. 14, 2026, at 11 a.m. A visitation will be held on hour prior to the service.
