Library volunteers make Boomerang bags

The boomerang is coming your way.
A group of women representing the Blooming Prairie Friends of the Library got together for coffee Feb. 29, with Linda Christianson hosting the meeting at her home.
Their purpose was to craft and sew as many as 20 reusable Boomerang Bags for kids and adults alike. Many customers at the Blooming Prairie Public Library use the bags, said librarian Nancy Vaillancourt.
Participating in the Thursday work session were: Christianson, Patti Keating, Mary Melherek, Kelly Kittleson, Vikki Wacek, and Maureen Christopherson.
Others who have helped on the project since it started are: Jan Anderson, Karen Thoen, Loretta Ingvalson, Jean Schwartz, Jannette Emde, and Vaillancourt.
Boomerang Bags are a part of an international program started by two teenage girls, said Christianson. This is the third year that Blooming Prairie has been a part of the program.
The volunteers meet in a four-hour session and bring their fabric, sewing machines, and scissors. Last Thursday’s get-together meant the start of another 100 bags; 200 have been created to date.
Patterns suitable for children and adults include vacationers, Timberwolves, Vikings, and Twins.
Christianson said puzzle Boomerang Bags are the most popular. Cooking and gardening are two other popular subjects.
Christianson said she applied a $250 Thrivent grant to the project.

The Friends of the Library group meets the third Monday of each month at 4:30 p.m. at the library.
