Huskies’ football takes center stage

Owatonna football closed out the 2026 Steele County Free Fair with its annual football rally on Sunday, introducing its latest team to a packed Wenger Stage audience.

The Huskies’ cheerleaders opened up the action by performing a cheer, dance and routine for the crowd before Owatonna head coach Jeff Williams took over the microphone to introduce his team for what will be his 30^th season as the Huskies’ head coach 30^th as his 40^th total season coaching the team.

In traditional fashion, Williams brought out his squad in groups with the kickers leading off before progressing to the linemen, tight ends, running backs, receivers, quarterbacks and captains.

Captains for the upcoming season include Sam Dulas, Nolan Rolloff, Benjamin Sackett and Aedan Tackmann.

Each athlete was given their moment in the spotlight and a personal scouting report by Williams from the summer training program.

Williams once again managed to hand out plenty of compliments and kept the ceremony light, making the crowd laugh while also feeling the intensity of the upcoming season.

Rounding out the show was the introduction of the staff, which showed the true nature of Owatonna football.

Two new faces joined the varsity staff this season with Brayden Truelson and Josh Burns both coming aboard after having played for Williams as alumni of the Huskies program.

Of the 20 coaches on staff, 14 are previous Owatonna High School alumni, showcasing the program’s legacy and its importance to former athletes.

According to Williams, a major part of his teams’ successes over the course of his career has been a staff of coaches who not only look to develop young athletes as football players, but young men as well.

Owatonna football opens up its season on the road against Mankato East on Friday, Sept. 4 at 7 p.m.
